Interval Practice. In this program you can specify the intervals you want to work on, the timbres, speed, and whether the intervals use the same or different timbres for each note. There are also several interfaces -- for now choose Interval Names. Students in 20th Century Aural Theory Classes will want to use signed integers, and pitch-class intervals.
Melodic Dictation. Set one are the problems you have been doing using CDs this semester. Set 2, is online, and will also be available on CDs in Presser Listening Library. You can download the complete answer form as PDF. Each problem is shown on a web page with a link to a QuickTime file to play.
Harmonic Dictation. In this program, select the category you want to work on -- Tonic Expansion, Pre-Dominants, Pre-Dominant Seventh Chords, etc., and then click on To Exercises. Click on New Problem, and then Play. Soprano and Bass are enterec by clicking on Solfege syllables (Movable DO and DO-based minor). The chords (Roman Numerals) in the middle boxes, are entered by clicking on Roman Numerals and figured bass. For examle to enter I6, click on I and then 6 (the order doesn't matter). The tab key advances to the next box. I suggest clicking on the first soprano or bass box, entering your answer, and then using the Tab key to move to the right. You can also use the arrow keys to navigate. You can change timbres, and change the tempo with a slider on the lower right. When you are ready, click Check Answer. Any errors will be marked. To see the correct answer, click on Show Answer. New Problem gives you the next problem. Reset the program by reloading the page in your browser.
There are many exercises in each category. The order of problems, the key, and the timbre (tone color) are chosen randomly, so you can come back to this many times and never get the same sequence of questions. For Theory I, you will find Tonic Expansion, Pre-dominants, and possibly Pre-dominant 7th chords useful. Other categories will be useful for Theory II and III. Enjoy!
